Main Street Speed Limit Changes to 30 km
June 10, 2020
At the June 9th Council meeting, a motion was passed to change the speed limit on Main Street (20th St) to 30 km/hr from 21st Ave (Medical Centre) to 28th Ave (4 way stop by the Bistro).
The change was initiated in the interest of safety after receiving several complaints. Village Council met with Red Deer County Patrol for their input and expertise for the best course of action to take. As our community has become busier, the speed limit change will make it safer for pedestrians and for vehicles that are turning or backing out onto Main Street.
Some 30 km/hr signs have been moved and "New Speed Limit" signs have been ordered to be erected as soon as possible. Signs cannot be placed on the wooden light polls as they belong to ATCO Electric and not the Village.
As for right now, an education and awareness campaign is being implemented to inform the public about the speed limit change. If you have any questions, please contact the municipal office.
