PARTIAL WATER BAN UPDATE
We are happy to announce that the Partial Water Ban has been successful in relieving the strain on our wells and pump house as this weekend’s average consumption was 52,545 gallons a day which is a significant drop from the consumption of 78,455 gallons on June 7th.
The Partial Water Ban continues to be enforced as we experience dry conditions. Even after a continuous rainfall, it will take approximately 6 months for our wells to recover.
At this time, we would like to address some questions we have received from the public regarding the Partial Water Ban:
1. Why is the Spray Park still open?
a. The Spray Park has its own holding tank where the water is recycled and treated.
2. Why does the Golf Course run sprinklers when residents are not allowed?
a. The Golf Course pumps wastewater from one of our lagoons to operate their sprinklers. They do not use treated water from our wells to irrigate the grass.
3. Why don’t we just dig more wells?
a. Alberta Environment governs the number of wells per municipality and the Village of Delburne is at its licensed capacity with three wells. Due to this reason, it is imperative that we conserve our treated water.
We appreciate the community’s involvement in lowering our water consumption. Thank you! The Village will continue to monitor water levels and ensure that citizens adhere to the Partial Water Ban.
As a reminder, outdoor watering, by hand, must be done between 6 pm to 10 am on the designated day based on the location of your property. Properties North of 20th St. may water on EVEN numbered day and properties South of 20th St. may water on ODD numbered days.
Watering must be done by hand using a can or hose. Outdoor sprinklers and other irrigation equipment CANNOT be used. Pools and hot tubs are NOT allowed to be filled unless the owner brings in bulk water from an outside service provider.
The Village of Delburne, as well as Red Deer County Patrol, will be handing out written warnings, as well as tickets for repeat offenders, if caught violating the Partial Water Ban as per Bylaw No. 1175/2022, being the Water, Sewer, and Garbage Services Bylaw.
