Three Hills RCMP reminds the public they are responsible for the behaviour and actions of their dog(s). Local bylaws provide an outline for responsible ownership and include monetary punishment for aggressive behaviour and bites. In addition, police can utilize the Dangerous Dog Act. The Act permits a Justice to direct a peace officer to euthanize a dog that has bitten or attempted to bite a person. Alternatively, a Justice may make an order directing the owner to keep the dog in a proper way. The order can include strict guidelines for the owner.
Three Hills RCMP encourages the public to examine the bylaws for their community as they pertain to animal control/ownership.
