Environment Canada has issued an extreme cold warning for our area. Today, the temperature is staying around 30 degrees Celsius but with wind chill values, it is expected to be closer to minus 40 degrees Celsius. Temperatures are expected to dip even further, reaching minus 40 degrees Celsius with wind chills approaching minus 50 degrees Celsius.

Extreme cold puts everyone at a health risk for frost bite and hypothermia. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working outdoors and those without proper shelter.

It is recommended to stay indoors. If you have to travel by car, know your route ahead of time and make sure you have a well-stocked emergency kit in your vehicle. Dress in warm, windproof layers and don’t overexert yourself when working outside as sweating can lead to hypothermia.

If it’s too cold for you to stay outside, it’s too cold for your pet to stay outside. Please make sure that your pets have a warm shelter during this cold snap.

The Government of Alberta has a video to learn how you can prepare for extreme cold weather. It can be viewed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Rm60iFWuIA&t=2s

With that being said, the Village of Delburne Municipal Office will be closed on Friday, January 12th. We do not want citizens or staff venturing out in these extreme cold temperatures. The temperature is expected to warm up to -17 degrees Celsius on Monday. The Village office will be open on Monday, January 15th at 9 am. Please stay safe and warm.
