It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our former Mayor, Tim Wilson. Tim passed away on Friday, February 6, 2026 after a sudden stroke the week before. He served for 12 years on the Village of Delburne Council as a councillor and, during his final term, as the Mayor.

Tim was a very passionate, dedicated leader who cared greatly about our community. He encouraged out-of-the-box thinking, conversation, and cooperation. It was important to him that the municipality helped citizens fulfill their hopes and dreams. With this concept, Tim proposed Delburne’s motto of Your Success is Our Success because he truly believed that an individual’s achievement would benefit everyone.

Tim was very proud of the community’s accomplishments that he wanted everyone to share in that pride, so he produced a list entitled “Delburne: A Journey to be Proud of” that was published in the December 2025 Village Voice. An important project on that list was the Medical Centre. Tim was a healthcare advocate who continuously supported maintaining access to local health services. Though he decided to not run in the recent election, he remained involved with bringing more amenities to the community.

Tim wasn’t a big fan of technology. He had a flip phone, he avoided using email as much as he could, and he liked his agenda packages printed, but he recognized the importance of installing a fiber optic network in the Village. When making municipal decisions, he focused on what was good for the community.

Tim always talked about helping our seniors. One of his most rewarding contributions was being Delburne’s representative on the board of directors for Parkland Foundation. He was delighted to see the renovations at Delburne’s Elk Haven and the construction of Autumn Grove Lodge in Innisfail, which is a 90-unit affordable housing centre for Central Alberta seniors.

In 2022, Tim was bestowed the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal for his outstanding contributions of volunteerism and community service to Delburne and Alberta.

Relationship building was extremely important to Tim. He made deep connections with other Mayors and Councillors in Central Alberta. He had a strong bond with Delburne Council and staff. He felt it essential that the municipal office was a harmonious, welcoming space. Tim spent a great deal of time focusing on municipal matters, and for that, we’d like to thank Jane for sharing him with us, and thank you for sharing him with the community. Tim had a big heart and he loved his community. He will be greatly missed by all.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
